It was built in the 17th and 18th centuries and is the most fascinating place in the Absheron peninsula. The temple ceased to be a place of worship after 1883 with the installation of petroleum plants at Surakhany. The complex was turned into a museum in 1975. The annual number of visitors to the museum is 15,000.
“Yanardag”
You will learn legends about Burning Mountain – Yanardag, the most famous ‘eternal flame’ in Azerbaijan; it was lit in the 1950s by a shepherd on the side of the hill. It is one of the few fire mountains that exist today. Yanardag Mountain has had natural gas burning for several thousands of years.
